About Us

Our Story

It Begins to Move was born from the belief that healing is both personal and collective, and that pain, when held with care, can become a source of wisdom, strength, and liberation.

We have been involved in healing spaces for a long time, learning about and utilizing many different approaches to wellness.

Over and over we saw how ongoing stress from difficult life circumstances affect health and wellbeing of both individuals and communities.

We have also seen how specific embodiment practices - used in very intentional ways - can transform pain and chronic stress into empowered strength, resilience, love, and deep connection.

Guided by the wisdom of lived experience and the principles of safety, care, and transformation, we walk alongside those seeking not just relief, but deep, liberatory change. From pain to power, we move together.

Vision

We envision a world where every person transforms the wisdom born from pain into strength, compassion, and liberation—fueling personal growth and igniting healing across families, organizations, and communities. By supporting this process, we believe humanity can become stronger, wiser, kinder, and more resilient.

Mission

It Begins to Move provides trauma-informed tools and practices that support embodied autonomy, liberated self-love, safe relating, and gentle healing. We accompany individuals in reconnecting with their physical and emotional sensations, building resilience to stress, and cultivating unshakable inner safety and empowered agency. By co-creating spaces of belonging and fostering skills for safe, authentic relationships, we nurture lasting empowerment, freedom, and joy. Grounded in a commitment to unlearning oppressive systems, we strive to practice care in ways that are equitable, respectful, and rooted in collective healing.

Core Values

  • Safety: We prioritize safety as the foundation for trust and healing.
  • Gently: We move gently, with respect for pace, process, and presence.
  • Care: We care deeply about wellbeing, and lead with care in all our relationships and actions.
  • Accessibility: We strive to remove barriers—physical, financial, cultural, and emotional—so that care feels welcoming, relevant, and reachable for all.
  • Lived Experience: We honor lived experience as essential wisdom and guidance.
  • Flexible Responsiveness: We listen closely to our community and adapt our offerings to meet real, evolving needs, creating care that’s timely, relevant, and rooted in relationship.
  • Transformation: We believe in the possibility of growth, healing, and meaningful change. Wisdom is pain that has transformed into strength, compassion, and liberation.
  • Stewardship & Leadership: We aim to join persons seeking care in co-creating their vision of empowered healing.
  • Liberation, Abolition & Social Justice: We work toward individual and collective liberation by unlearning harmful systems, practicing solidarity, and pursuing systemic change, all rooted in abolitionist values and a deep commitment to social justice.
  • Connection: Emerging from safe relating, deep connection with self and others creates a sense of belonging and forming the foundation for resilience, empowerment, and collective healing.
  • Joy: We honor joy as a vital part of healing and wholeness. Not just a result of healing, but a practice of celebrating aliveness, savoring connection, and living with meaning. Joy reminds us of what makes life worth living and helps sustain us through the work of transformation.
