Building Attunement: The Gateway To Belonging

The kind of tuning that doesn’t demand perfection, just presence. It’s the willingness to pause, to notice what’s alive inside, to find the edges of feeling, of bodily sensation, and to welcome them without rushing away.
In a culture that often asks us to mute, perform, or hide parts of ourselves, attunement is a revolutionary act.
It is the gateway to belonging, not by changing who we are, but by befriending ourselves in our truest form, and inviting others to do the same.
When we grow in attunement, we begin to recognize the signals our bodies have been sending all along. Tension, tightness, discomfort, or numbness—they’re not failures. They are guides.
Through embodied listening, we begin to cultivate clarity: what feels safe, what feels alive, what feels like home in our skin.
The workshop Together: The Felt Sense of Belonging leans into that kind of listening.
Slowly and tenderly, the workshop invites you into perceiving internal textures—breath, heartbeat, the ground beneath us—and how to bring your felt sense forward in relationships that deepen your sense of connection instead of draining the life out of us.
One of the activities the workshop explores is a quiet, intentional movement from the Indian wisdom tradition of yoga, that invites you to tune inward and gently deepen your attunement to yourself.
Softening Into the Truth Your Body Already Knows
- Inner Treasure Hand Shape (Samputa Mudra)
- Samputa Mudra—also called the Inner Treasure Hand Shape—is a simple yet powerful hand gesture that invites you inward.
- The word samputa in Sanskrit translates to "treasure chest" and suggests a vault of inner radiance.
Here’s how it works:

Cup or round both hands, and place your left hand underneath your right hand, fitting them together so that they form a round shape that's closed around space inside--like a treasure chest that's holding precious material inside of it.
- You might let your hands remain in this shape in front of your belly or resting in your lap.
Here's what it offers:
- Softening into Spaciousness
This practice can bring awareness to your neck, throat, and shoulders, which may soften and tension in these areas and allow space for something new or fresh to emerge. - A Path to Inner Listening
This gesture invites you to slow down and hear what’s quietly true inside you. Your body holds wisdom, and this practice may help you hear it. - Receiving Subtle Messages
With your hands held in this way, you may begin to receive the wise messages of your felt sense rising from within. - Speaking From What’s True
Over time, this gesture can help your voice rise from a grounded and authentic place, deepening true connection with others and allowing greater ease in setting boundaries to protect wise treasure within you.
Putting It Into Practice
This hand shape can be used on its own or with additional elements to deepen the experience.
On its own:
- You might hold the shape for 5‑10 breaths, simply noticing any thoughts, feelings, or body sensations that arise.
If you'd like to explore more:
- You might say the following affirmation to yourself as you hold Samputa Mudra:
“Something sacred glows softly within, reminding me that I am a treasure"
Afterwards:
- If it feels okay to do so, you may notice if anything shifts within you. Do you notice any difference in your throat, your chest, or belly? Is there a felt sense that arises? Perhaps a warmth, or softness, or spaciousness, or maybe something more subtle? (Friendly reminder: there is no need to do anything with the information that you receive. It's okay to just notice it without having to change or fix anything)

Why This Matters
